SmartLife Hopes for £10m Sales

"A healthcare technology business based in Manchester today announced plans to roll out its flagship product - a vest which can measure the wearer's temperature, heart rate and breathing.
SmartLife Technology is hoping its 'HealthVest' will enable the firm to achieve sales of more than £10m by 2012.
Chief executive Mark Pedley, 53, is targeting markets in the United States, as SmartLife gears up to launch the garment later this year.
So far, SmartLife has received £2m in funding to develop the vest, which has a series of sensors that transmit data via bluetooth technology to a computer or mobile phone.
It says the vest will reduce the need for patients to have to go to hospital for tests, enabling health authorities to save millions of pounds.
The technology will also help to enhance athletes' performance and make emergency workers safer by monitoring their condition remotely.
Based on Sackville Street, SmartLife is co-owned by Mr Pedley, director Chris Giness, Manchester University and Australian textile firm Melba .
It is working with companies such as telecoms giants Nokia and Qualcomm to develop its technology.
Mr Pedley said today: "The United States will be the focus initially, as remote health monitoring is very much accepted out there.
"We are already receiving inquiries."
SmartLife, which employs 15 people, is being advised on its plans by Manchester accountancy firm Baker Tilly , whose team is led by partner Graham Bond."
